2023 Chevy Tahoe: New Update Chevy Tahoe Big 6.2L V-8 Spreads Review

Posted on

2023 Chevy Tahoe is a large SUV with minivan-like passenger accommodations and towing capabilities that compete with pickups. The 2023 Chevy Tahoe is also a three-line car that also offers three engine options with the standard 355-hp V-8, the more powerful 420-hp V-8, and the stump-pulling diesel of 460 pound-feet of torque.

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe Z71 trim comes as a sturdy car to tackle rough terrain and the more glamorous High Country. But it costs just as much as other premium alternatives like the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator.

  • Spacious interior for passengers and cargo
  • Smooth ride
  • Easy-to-use touch screen
  • New diesel engine available

2023 Chevy Tahoe Preview

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe certainly sees improvements in all aspects, both analog and digital, this is good news for all V8 lovers wherever you are. On the part of the hugely popular 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 420 horsepower of about 309 kilowatts is now available in RST, Z71, and Premier trims.

The eight-pot unit is a standard component on the High Country variant. The good news is that customers who opt for the 6.2-liter V8 for the Tahoe and Suburban RST will also get the impressive Magnetic Ride Control. This system comes in standard Premier and High Country trims and is also available for the Z71.

We also need to state that the 5.3-liter V8 engine remains the standard engine on the LS, LT, Z71, RST, and Premier models. The optional Duramax 3.0 L turbo-diesel unit is available on all models, except for the Z71 only. Overall, the Tahoe and Suburban models will be equipped with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission with a push-button electronic shift.

Also new is the presence of an electronic limited-slip differential for better traction on this vehicle. For orders, the off-road-oriented Z71 can be used on 4WD Low for better off-road performance and helps prevent wheel slippage on dirt and mud.

Not only that but changes are also expected to come with technological aspects as well as being updated in the 2023 Chevy Tahoe. The larger digital instrument measures 12.3 inches diagonally for the LT trim and above Chevy’s new SUV gets 13 unique camera views plus a new trailering view.

These views including the rear trailer view, picture-in-picture side view, and inside trailer view when connected to the accessory camera are impressive.

The built-in Google technology also debuted in the 2023 Chevy Tahoe is also standard on LT trims and above so you should now have access to Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play directly on the vehicle screen. The system can also work with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

2023 Chevy Tahoe Review

One year into a new generation, the full-size Chevrolet Tahoe SUV is booming which has also been named one of the Best Family Cars. The Mobil still uses traditional body-on-frame construction but has more space and a more comfortable ride than ever before plus impressive towing capabilities and a decent amount of modernity.

2023 Chevy Tahoe

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe technology is a perennial best-seller among full-size SUVs in the United States especially when it comes to its long wheelbase variants. Not everyone needs a large 3-row SUV that can accommodate up to nine people but the 2023 Chevy Tahoe option is the best.

  • 12-inch digital driver information display comes standard
  • Buckle to Drive feature added
  • Reverse automatic braking is available on the top two trims
  • Enhanced Trailer Appearance offered in the top two trims
  • RST trim offered with new Sports Performance package
  • The Z71 is now eligible for the Off-Road Performance plan

2023 Chevy Tahoe Redesign: What’s New

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe makes a significant change to the Tahoe lineup with a 420-hp 6.2-liter V-8 now available in the RST, Z71, and Premier trim levels. As a reliable Off-Road type, you can choose the 2023 Chevy Tahoe Z71 which is added by an electronic limited-slip differential. Every 2023 Chevy Tahoe except the base LS features an adjustable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Also present is the infotainment system on the LT and higher which has also been upgraded with Google voice assistant, maps, and app store. And the standard driver assistance features on the 2023 Chevy Tahoe are enhanced by the addition of an even better automatic high beam, also equipped with front and rear parking sensors, lane guard assistance, and more.

But it doesn’t stop there it is also equipped with the ability to access up to 13 different camera views now available with a dedicated view for footage. Then the 2023 Chevy Tahoe paint color palette includes metallic colors such as Auburn, Dark Ash, and Evergreen Grey.

2023 Chevy Tahoe Specs

It’s still very mysterious but we expect GM to announce its latest upgrade to the 2023 Chevy Tahoe with new specifications for the full-size SUV by expanding the availability of the powerful 6.2-liter V8 engine throughout its lineup while improving interior connectivity and safety features. The new design adds independent rear suspension to the standalone RST and Z71 trim packages and a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel engine as well as a new ten-speed automatic transmission.

The higher 420-horsepower V8 can choose between RST, Z71 and Premier trim alongside last year’s High Country package. The smaller 5.3-liter V8 remains available across the LS, LT, Z51, RST, and Premier ranges. Opting for the 6.2 liters on the RST also adds Chevy’s Magnetic Ride Control shocks that come standard on the Premier and High Country and are available on the Z71.

The new Z71 package receives a new electronic limited-slip rear differential to improve trailer stability and off-road performance.

2023 Chevy Tahoe New Big 6.2L V-8 Spreads to More Models

Chevy will now offer the higher-capacity 6.2-liter V8 engine in the RST, Z71, and Premier Tahoe and Suburban trims. It remains standard on the High Country trim while the army’s 5.3 liter V8 is the standard bump under the hood for SUVs. Meanwhile, the 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six turbodiesel engine remains optional in all SUVs except the Z71.

Those who opt for the larger V8 for the RST trim also get Magnetic Ride Control which is standard on Premier and High Country SUVs. Buyers can also opt for an electronic limited-slip differential for the Tahoe and Suburban Z71 which Chevy says improves traction even more on dirt and mud.

A large, high-output V-8 engine is available in more new electronic limited-slip differential trim and improved trailer assist technology. The bottom line is that the 420-horsepower unit’s 6.2-liter V-8 that we’ve loved in many of its applications was previously only available in High Country to trim for the Tahoe and Suburban.

This engine is optional on the RST, Z71, and Premier trims while standard on the High Country 3.0-liter turbodiesel is still an option. Previously, the RST, Z71, and Premier versions were only available with turbodiesel except for the Z71 or the base 5.3-liter V-8 and we’re pretty sure a certain type of buyer would be very interested in equipping a 2023 Chevy Tahoe in their garage.

2023 Chevy Tahoe Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

This latest generation 2023 Chevy Tahoe boasts its largest interior equipped with extra space compared to the previous model. The previously narrow third row adds about 10 inches of legroom and the second-row seats now slide back and forth to provide much-needed flexibility.

2023 Chevy Tahoe

Now adults can sit comfortably in the very back. The 2023 Chevy Tahoe Interior also provides a lower, flatter floor thanks to its independent rear suspension cargo area with the second and third rows of balloons folded down to 123 cubic feet.

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe also managed to fit six carry-on luggage behind the third row and also by replacing the old column shifter with a push-and-sliding arrangement. In addition, the retractable motorized center console lid looks eye-catching, especially since the control switches are located on the roof.

2023 Chevy Tahoe Infotainment and Connectivity

Passengers are pampered with comfort and a relaxed road trip equipped with infotainment features and Tahoe’s strong connectivity helps ensure that translation. Each model is equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

In addition to the myriad of interior charging ports, the 2023 Chevy Tahoe three-row offers a powerful Bose audio system and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 12.6-inch screens mounted behind the front seats.

2023 Chevy Tahoe Technology & Security

GM added three new camera angles to standard trailer technology including a picture-in-picture side view of the rear trailer and the option to mount the camera inside the trailer—all in addition to the increasingly popular transparent trailer illusion.

The Tahoe driver assistance package adds front and rear parking assistance with fixed lane assist with lane departure warning to the existing Chevy Safety Assist suite which comes standard on all models and the new Buckle to Drive system will not let the gear selector out of the parking position until the driver and front passenger if detected fasten their seat belt.

2023 Chevy Tahoe Interior Comfort

The LS offers the choice of a 9 seater arrangement with a 3 person front seat. The regular lineup is two in front, with three places in each of the second and third rows. The LT, RST, and Z71 have a pair of second-row captain’s seats on their pick list, and these are standard in the top Premier and High Country trims.

Spacious space in all three rows. Even back in the third row, where there are 34.9 inches of legroom. The second row (sliding) has the same 42 inches wide. Chair covers range from durable fabrics to perforated leather.

A powerful, movable center console (slides forward and backward by 10 inches) is another standard feature on the top two trims and optional on the bottom three trims. This includes drawers, secure storage, manual sliding armrests, and cup holders for those in the second row.

The area behind the third row is likely to accommodate the entire airport mall baggage store inventory, measuring 25.5 cubic feet. When the seats are folded, the cargo volume increases to 72.6 and then to 122.9 cubic feet.

2023 Chevy Tahoe Exterior Style

The Chevy Tahoe does not attempt to disguise its size. On the other hand, this large SUV makes it a plus. There is a family resemblance to the Silverado, which is just as impressive.

The base LS trim has 18-inch alloy wheels. Sizes go up to 22 inches with the High Country version. The RST trim is the boldest member of the lineup with black exterior elements, including the wheels and grille. The Z71 has a contoured front skid plate to emphasize this variant’s off-road credentials.

2023 Chevy Tahoe Driving

This new model ditches the old sturdy rear axle for a much more sophisticated and refined independent setup. The 2023 Chevy Tahoe can be upgraded even more with the optional Magnetic Ride Control available in higher trims using electronically adjustable shock absorbers with near-instant response to current driving conditions. Along with the adaptive air suspension available in the new, more expensive version of the Tahoe, the ride comfort reaches the level of a luxury car.

Gears are selected with buttons instead of levers or column shifts. This takes some getting used to but it means the center console space is maximized.

Chevy Tahoe Favorite Features

Only available from the LT trim and up, this digital driver information display complements the stand-alone 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen to make the Chevy Tahoe cabin feel tech-rich at its best.
While diesel is as popular with some as the flatulence attack on the International Space Station, it does two things very well. Turbocharged diesel engines produce a lot of torque, and torque is the force that makes things move. It’s also less thirsty than a gasoline engine. Some great attributes to have especially when off-roading, one might think, but Chevrolet has decided not to make them available in the Z71 model.

Chevy Tahoe Standard Features

The LS is the lowest trim level of the 2023 Tahoe range, but it still comes with a pretty decent amount of standard equipment. Includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lights, rain sensor wipers, heated mirrors, side ladder, keyless entry/ignition, remote start, 3-zone automatic climate control, fabric upholstery, two 120 volt outlets, programmable Teen Driver lock, and power-adjustable front seats.

2023 Chevy Tahoe

Driver assistance features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane guard assistance/ lane departure warning, rear seat reminder, front/rear parking sensors, and automatic headlights. This year’s new Buckle to Drive feature encourages seat belt use by keeping the vehicle in the Parking position until the driver’s seat belt snaps into place.

A 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen is present on all new Chevy Tahoe models, along with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto wireless integration, Wi-Fi, six USB ports (including Type-C), satellite radio, and Bluetooth.

Despite all these features, we still recommend the next LT trim if finances allow, to get useful additions such as the new 12-inch digital driver information display for 2023, memory settings for the driver’s seat, heated front seats, self-dimming rearview mirror, opener universal garage door, hands-free liftgate operation, and wireless charging. A 9-speaker Bose audio and navigation system has also been added.

Chevy Tahoe Factory Option

Other than 4-wheel drive, the LS trim doesn’t qualify for many options. However, one thing we recommend is opting for the Driver Alert plan for $495. It’s also optional in the LT, RST, and Z71 models (standard in the top two trims). This includes blind-spot monitoring with rear-traffic alerts.

The three higher trims are also offered with a Luxury package featuring a 360-degree camera system and rear pedestrian warning, plus self-dimming side mirrors, power-adjustable steering column, heated steering wheel, and heated outboard second-row seats. A dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system and a powerful dual-panel panoramic sunroof are offered from LT level on up.

The Sports Performance package for this year’s new RST, adds a larger V8 and Magnetic Ride Control suspension (which is also optional on the Z71, standard in the Premier and High Country).

A new Off-Road Performance Package is also offered with the Z71, which is already a special version of the Chevy Tahoe that avoids asphalt — with front skid plates, all-terrain tires, and 4-wheel drive as standard. This bundle is a bigger V8. The Off-Road Capability Package features Magnetic Ride Control and adaptive air suspension, plus an electronic limited-slip differential.

Premier is one rung from the top, leaning towards luxury. It has a 10-speaker Bose surround sound system as standard, along with heated/ventilated front seats, and Safety Warning Seats (warning drivers of hazards in the most basic way). It qualifies for a heads-up display and a large V8, both standard in High Country models.

Premier and High Country are the only trims eligible for the new Automatic Reverse Braking feature. It’s the same situation with adaptive cruise control, which is included in the options bundle. For example, the High Country Deluxe package also adds a powered panoramic sunroof power-retractable side ladder, adaptive air suspension, and a Max Trailering package with extra cooling.

Chevy Tahoe Engine 2023, Transmission and Performance

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe is powered by a V-8 and will also come in the next generation standard 355-hp 5.3-liter and available 420-hp 6.2-liter block joined by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine. Although it has the least horsepower of the three and its 460 pound-feet of torque matches the larger V-8.

Each Tahoe is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear or all-wheel drive. The Z71 has a two-speed transfer case that provides s the traditional four-wheel-drive with 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires and underbody protection and has adequate acceleration, powerful brake pedals and a very quiet cab at highway speeds.

The Z71 also features air springs that allow the Tahoe’s ride height to be lowered or raised automatically and manually and adaptive dampers which are standard in the Premier and High Country upper echelons. The RST both sport luxurious 22-inch rims for added curb appeal.

2023 Chevy Tahoe SS

The rumored Tahoe SS will carry a supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 engine under the hood, bringing ferocious performance to the utility’s nameplate. In general, the new 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe SS has not yet been approved for production but the fact GM is considering such a vehicle should be good news for performance SUV enthusiasts.

Previously made a two-door Tahoe SS model with jet black paint, large alloy wheels, lower ride height and large brakes. Now, however, we’ve applied our digital art to the creation of the new Chevrolet Tahoe SS currently under consideration, rocking a four-door body style instead.

Other key elements for the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe SS include sporty 22-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with a glossy black paint finish. Once again, the ride height has been lowered to provide a suitable stance, which is a feature that can be achieved with the adoption of Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and a new lower ride mode. Paired with Magnetic Ride Control, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe SS can have the precise handling to complement the extra output.

We’ve also added some extra aesthetic enhancements, such as a new black front grille with black accents, SS badging, quad exhaust treatment, and a unique rear valence treatment. The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe SS will boast a supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4, which is good for 650 horsepower. The blown eight will be connected to GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission.

Chevy Tahoe 2023 Transmission

The Tahoe 2023 is the primary form of propulsion in the naturally occurring 5.3-liter V8 range that produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.

Standard on the High Country is a 6.2-liter V8 in the top trim making 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also optional in the RST, Z71 and Premier trims.

The larger V8 engine is on the standard 5.3 premium petrol which is better than usual. Both engines have a stop/restart function that saves a few drops of fuel at idle.

For the same amount of torque as the larger V8, but at a lower fuel bill, Chevrolet offers a 3.0-liter diesel engine — turbocharged, and configured as an inline-6. It is offered as an option in all trims except the Z71.

All 2023 Tahoe engines are connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel drive (RWD) standard in most cases. Four-wheel drive (4WD) is available throughout the range, standard on the Z71.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) fuel economy estimates relate to 2021, but we don’t expect any changes for 2023.

  • 5.3 liter V8
    • 355 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm
    • torque 383 lb-ft @ 4,100 rpm
    • EPA city/highway Fuel economy: 16/20 mpg (RWD & 4WD)
  • 6.2 liter V8
    • 420 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm
    • Torque 460 lb-ft @ 4,100 rpm
    • EPA city/highway fuel economy: 15/20 mpg (RWD), 14/19 mpg (4WD)
  • 3.0 liter turbocharged inline-6. diesel
    • 277 horsepower @ 3,750 rpm
    • torque 460 lb-ft @ 1,500 rpm
    • EPA city/highway Fuel economy: 21/28 mpg (RWD), 20/26 mpg (4WD)

2023 Chevy Tahoe MPG: Real-World Fuel Economy

The most fuel-efficient Tahoe features a diesel engine rated at 21 mpg city and 28 highway. The standard 5.3-liter V-8 is expected to be a bit more frugal in the city than the 6.2-liter V-8 but both get a 20 mpg rating on the highway.

The diesel-powered Tahoe on a 75 mph highway route is part of an extensive testing regimen with 27 MPG.

Chevy Tahoe 2023 Trim

The possibility that any of Tahoe’s six trim levels will be cheaper than the previous year’s model seems unlikely given pent-up market demand.

2023 Chevy Tahoe Color

There are three new exterior paint colors: Evergreen Gray Metallic, Auburn Metallic, and Dark Ash Metallic.

2023 Chevy Tahoe Price

Changes to the price of the mid-range RST and Z71 models that provide the best value and the standard four wheels Z71 is the best choice with a rugged look and exclusive off-road equipment. We also really hope the 2023 Chevy Tahoe will be upgraded from the standard 5.3-liter V-8 to the newly available 6.2-liter V-8 that produces an additional 65 horsepower and 77 pound-feet of torque.

The Z71 is also expected to come with the Z71 Signature package which includes all the desired features. Highlights include blind-spot monitoring, heated steering wheel and second-row seats, memory settings, panoramic sunroof, power-folding third-row, and upgraded towing equipment. The estimated 2023 Chevy Tahoe price reaches:

  • LS $52,345
  • LT $57,745
  • RST $60,945
  • Z71 $62,945
  • Premiere $65,695
  • High Country $72.595

2023 Chevy Tahoe Release Date

There’s no exact wording from GM yet, but we’re speculating it will start reaching dealer numbers in late October or early November next year.
