Don’t Miss Out: New 2024 Chevy Silverado HD Heavy Duty Truck Review

Posted on

2024 Chevy Silverado HD is expected to receive a major refresh for 2024, including new front and rear designs, a new interior, along with potential powertrain updates.

It’s worth noting that this refresh was originally slated for the 2023 model year, but the product cycle was delayed due to complications caused by COVID-19 and a shortage of superconducting chips. In addition, the fourth generation Silverado HD pickup is currently performing very well in the market.

As of 2019, the Silverado HD model has been assembled at the Flint plant in Michigan, USA. In addition, the Oshawa plant in Canada currently only builds Chevrolet Silverados. Production began with the Silverado HD in November.

In the spring of 2022, Oshawa will begin production of the Silverado 1500s, along with the launch of the new model announced earlier this year. This will make Oshawa the only GM plant to exclusively manufacture Silverado models, and the only factory to make light and heavy trucks.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Review

The current generation Chevrolet Silverado HD has a face that some might say is polarizing. It’s bold of course, and it looks like much of that bravery will hold up with the facelifted truck expected for the 2024 model year.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD

Caught here for the first time at Motor1.com, we see two Silverado HD prototypes hooked up to a trailer that hauls, well, itself.

This is certainly a good way to perform towing tests for prototype vehicles. Depending on the specifications, the Silverado HD 3500 double-cab can weigh over 7,000 pounds. The same goes for the tonne GMC Sierra HD, which we also see in the trailer in this spy shot.

We don’t know exactly what’s going on here, but if you’re testing the strength of the prototype and aren’t sure about its reliability, towing a vehicle that can tow it home is some inspiring thought.

Anyway, we were given a glimpse of the future of Silverado HD. The heavy cover hides the changing details but it looks like the headlights will at least get a makeover. It’s possible we could see placeholders in this prototype, though the current layout of the small lights at the top with the larger clusters below them could change.

The grille looks bigger than before, but the horizontal bar that bisects the headlights seems to stay within the confines of the grille. As for the rear, although we see a heavy cover, changes should be minimal and relegated mainly to the taillight design.

Of particular interest to GM truck fans is the news that the Duramax diesel will get a power boost. The current 6.6-liter engine is behind cross-town rivals in the Ford and Ram, though 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque is still more than enough to pull the little moon.

The updated model could see those numbers climb to 500 hp and 1,000 lb-ft, giving Chevrolet fans some bragging rights on paper once again.

When can we expect a debut? Our spy sources don’t have an exact date set, though we believe the updated Silverado HD will be a model year 2024 truck. That suggests a debut may be later this year or early 2023.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Refresh

GM is preparing a full model refresh for the heavy-duty Chevy Silverado HD pickup truck, set to launch for the 2024 model year. Now, GM Authority has its first glimpse of the updated 2024 Silverado HD interior.

While this latest spy photo doesn’t show the overall layout of the cabin, there are some important features that we can still pick from.

Starting from the far left, we see a vertically oriented tall vent with horizontal slats and polished trim edges, next to which is a large gauge pod hood with a glossy black finish. Above the measuring pod, we see some stitched upholstery.

Next to the gauges, we also see a horizontally oriented touchscreen, with the glovebox close together and finished with possible wood trim.

From the looks of it, the interior layout of the 2024 Silverado HD looks very similar to the interior layout of the new updated Chevy Silverado 1500 2022 light-duty pickup.

The Silverado HD 2024 shown here is likely the LTZ trim level. Similar to the updated light-duty Silverado 1500, the updated 2024 Silverado HD will continue to offer the old interior layouts for the lower trims, including the WT and Custom, while the new interior will be furnished as a higher standard across the trim level lineup, including for the LT, LTZ. , High Country, and the new 2024 model year Silverado HD ZR2.

As GM Authority was the first to report, the 2024 Silverado HD ZR2 will be on par with the GMC Sierra HD AT4 X in terms of off-road capability, and will be equipped with unique features such as revised front and rear bumpers, underbody protection, front. and rear locking differentials, and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires.

As for the wider 2024 Silverado HD lineup, the powertrain offering will be upgraded for more output, with the Duramax’s 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel putting out nearly 1,100 pound-feet of torque and over 500 horsepower.

Front and rear fascia treatments will also be revised, while the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T petrol engine will be mated to GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission, rather than GM’s current 6-speed automatic.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Specs

Right after Chevrolet gave the Silverado 1500 a full refresh, we learned that the automaker was planning another refresh for its heavier sibling, the Silverado 2500HD. Unfortunately, pickup truck fans will have to wait a long time, as this refresh is reportedly planned for the 2024 model year.

The Silverado 2500HD is the middle child of the Silverado sibling: larger than the Silverado 1500 and 1500 Limited , and smaller than the 3500HD .

As a refresher, the 2500HD will likely receive a new trim level, the HD ZR2, for single-wheel rear vehicles, as well as 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, new custom dampers and locking differentials front and rear.

According to GM Authority, which caught some spy shots of the 2024 2500HD prototype, the refresh could also introduce new front and rear designs and a remodeled interior.

Not only is the exterior and interior rumored to be revamped, but the powertrain is also rumored to be getting an upgrade. The 2024 pickup may receive an update for the Duramax diesel engine.

In the current 2500HD, the 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 engine delivers 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque, but with upgrades, it’s projected to skyrocket to over 500 horsepower and 1,100 lb-ft of torque.

New Chevy Silverado HD 2024

Since the last time we made a big story about GM’s upcoming heavy-duty pickup truck was in September 2021, I’d mistakenly refer to a similar prototype as the 2023 truck. Granted, I do expect GM to release this updated pickup truck sooner rather than later.

It is rumored to have an upgraded Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine with added power, torque and capabilities.

We have unofficial information that the upgraded Duramax V8 turbo-diesel engine will have approximately 505 horsepower and 1,085 lb-ft of torque. New information from the GM Fleet Order Guide says that the GM HD 2023 truck will continue with VERY minimal changes.

The Fleet Order Guide says the 2023 model year GM HD pickup truck will continue its current engines, including the L5P 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 with 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque.

Since GM continues to test this prototype truck in the real world it shows that the company is not abandoning upgrades. So, I will call this GM prototype the 2024 model. I hope it comes to market with an upgraded diesel engine as soon as possible.

2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 HD

Is Chevrolet testing future Silverado ZR2 HD models? Speculation abounds after recent photos captured what appears to be an off-road-oriented Silverado HD 2024 prototype undergoing a shakedown.

We get a long-lens look at the new off-road-ready Chevy Silverado HD prototype — suggesting that the HD-grade Silverado ZR2 is in development for debut when the facelifted Silverado HD lineup debuts for the 2024 model year.

Current Chevrolet has a pretty big hole in its Silverado HD lineup, as none of the trims are focused on off-roading. Unlike the GMC and its Sierra AT4 HD, the Chevrolet doesn’t have the HD space to match the Ford Super Duty Tremor or the Ram 2500 Power Wagon.

So the appearance of this rugged new Silverado HD prototype makes sense in the market. We expect the more extreme Silverado Trail Boss HD and ZR2 HD to be added, completing Chevy’s lineup of Heavy Duty trucks.

Although photographed from a distance, the Silverado HD prototype captured here shows similarities to the off-road-focused variant in the Silverado 1500 lineup. Grille elements are visible through the front camouflage, and the design treatment is unlike anything we’ve seen on previous prototypes for this. HD facelifted Chevy.

The grille treatment visible through the camouflage mesh looks similar to that of the recently released Silverado 1500 ZR2, as do the vertically oriented rectangular fog lamps visible on the outer edges of the front bumper.

Chevrolet has a habit of camouflaging high-clearance cut-outs on the bumpers of its ZR2-spec prototypes, but it’s clear that this Silverado HD prototype has off-road-friendly clearance. We also get to see a front skid plate that looks like something outside of the traditional Trail Boss specs—at least as seen on the Trail Boss Silverado 1500 trim.

The treatment of this Silverado HD front skid plate also looks similar to the rugged GMC Sierra HD prototype seen earlier, which shows the new AT4X addition coming to GMC’s HD truck lineup (photo included for context).

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Trim

Similar to the smaller version, the LT trim levels onwards will likely receive upgraded interior elements. The Silverado 1500 ships these items starting in the LT trim as well. Older interior features will remain for the lower trims including, WT and Custom models.

The ZR2 name is making the rounds and will be the trim added to the Silverado HD lineup for 2024. This new model can give us the off-road qualities we want in this heavy-duty truck. The new ZR2 is on par with the GMC Sierra HD AT4X in terms of off-road capability. This new Chevy truck should have:

  • Revised front and rear bumper
  • Underbody protection
  • Front and rear locking differential
  • 35 inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Interior

The Chevrolet pattern continues. First, the brand offered new elements in its Silverado 1500 half-ton truck lineup, and then these same changes came to the larger model. The 2024 version of the Chevrolet Silverado HD will feature some of the same interior upgrades, but with a modern twist, as we’ve seen on the half-ton truck.

You might think the team at GM Authority could get a full rundown of what the 2024 version of this heavy-duty truck will offer, but that’s not the case. Of course, GM Authority will have all the details first, but with the new interior design more than a year away, GM wants to hide some new items.

The overall feel of the new interior gives the Silverado HD a similar style and layout to the upgraded Silverado 1500 2022. This is what most experts think will happen for this line of trucks because that is what GM has done in the past with new features and trucks. styling.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD Diesel

The turbocharged 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engine can produce 1,100 lb-ft of torque and over 500 horsepower in the 2024 model year.

The petrol engine, the 6.6-liter V8 model, will use GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission and ditch the old six-speed model. This means better performance and more power for consumers switching to the Silverado HD lineup.

The Silverado 1500 ZR2 only comes with a 6.2-liter V8 engine, but this HD prototype has a large green sticker marked “Diesel” above the petrol door.
