2024 Chevy Tahoe represents the fourth model year of the fifth-generation, all-new full-size SUV for 2021. As such, Tahoe is expected to see a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year. In particular, it is possible that an all-new high-performance variant could hit the market for the 2023 model year, and will sport a supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 engine.
While the Chevy Tahoe 2024 is more than a year away from reaching dealerships, we took a peek at a new set of wheels that might be an option on the new high-end model of the popular full-size SUV. We caught the new prototype for the updated Chevy Tahoe 2024, with a striking set of wheels and low-profile tires. Does it point to the sporty variant (SS?), or the new luxury in the Tahoe High Country?
The positioning of the new prototype is undoubtedly eye-catching, due to the large wheels with aggressive detailing and the accompanying low-profile rubber. It looks more athletic than the Tahoe prototype seen before, and the quad exhaust tips announce the arrival of a 6.2-liter V8 engine. Everything is on hand for the sharp, curb-focused Tahoe variant that shows high-performance intent, but other details suggest something leaning towards the luxury end of the spectrum.
Tahoe wheels look bulky but are likely to be the same 22 inches as the largest wheels available for the Tahoe lineup. The tires appear to have the same specs as we saw on the Cadillac Escalade V prototype—Bridgestone Alenza A/S 02 275/50R22 tires—but sadly, those tires are standard on all of GM’s large body-on-frame SUVs equipped with wheels. 22 inches.
The prototype shows many of the chrome trim details found in the luxurious Tahoe High Country, leading us to a more refined, luxury-focused application.
The prototype wheels look more dramatic than the most expensive optional alloy currently available on the Tahoe High Country: the black 22” wheels with selective machining, yours for an extra $2,995. We may see an updated version of the top trim level of the Chevy Tahoe 2024, with all the bells and whistles.
Review: 2024 Chevy Tahoe Z71
Information on the part of General Motors that it is preparing a mid-cycle upgrade (also known as a revision) for the Chevy Tahoe SUV for the 2024 model year, with anticipation of many updates and modifications. Among the modifications is a new front fascia and an updated design. GM Authority has previously outlined an updated 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, and now we’re trying to make the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 off-road oriented.
The most striking aspect of our rendering of the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 is the facelift. Lighting integrates the Chevrolet High Brow design language with high-mounted LED daytime running lights. The lamp housings also include turn signals, while a set of rectangular projector lamps serve as the main forward lighting under the fascia. The lower part of the projector headlamp is adorned with a C-shaped chrome bezel.
Crossing the DRL on the upper extremity of the 2024 Chevy Tahoe Z71’s fascia is a large horizontal grille bar where the Chevy Bow Tie emblem is prominently displayed. The grille itself is also slightly larger than before. As usual for the Z71, the skid plate is attached to the lower edge of the fascia. Each side of the skid plate is equipped with a pair of dark red hooks. In addition, the lower bumper is also modified.
Returning to our profile rendering, the Z71 badging can be seen mounted high on the front fender, while black Tahoe badging is visible on the doors. The length of the vehicle between the axles is padded with step-ups. Notably, the refreshed 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe is expected to feature a new 3.0L I6 LZ0 Duramax turbodiesel engine, which will replace the current 3.0L I6 LM2 Duramax turbodiesel.
With this in mind, it’s possible the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 will offer the 3.0L I6 LZ0 as an option, given the new engine and redesigned fascia could circumvent the packaging limitations that prohibited the Tahoe Z71 from offering the current LM2.
2024 Chevy Tahoe Z71
The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe will be the fourth model year of the fifth-generation full-size SUV and will undergo a mid-cycle refresh. As a reminder, Tahoe is receiving an extensive redesign for the 2021 model year.
Expectation
We expect the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe to receive the following modifications and updates:
- Chevrolet’s trademark “high brow” treatment, which separates the headlights into two tiers, is incorporated into the new front fascia.
- The upper part of the headlamp will act as the daytime running light (DRL) and turn signal, while the lower part will act as the headlamp and high beam.
- The rear fascia and taillights have been updated.
- New roof-mounted antenna kit for communication
- Alternative to new 24-inch tires
- Redesigned cockpit with new enlarged infotainment display and redesigned center stack
- The new Duramax 3.0L LZ0 turbodiesel engine will replace the 3.0L LM2 engine.
- The new LZ0 delivers more power and torque while addressing some refinement issues, most notably the long crank issue; compare both in the link provided. LM2 vs. LZ0
- Notably, it’s likely that the 2024 Tahoe Z71 will be available with the LZ0 “Baby Duramax” engine; in contrast, the 2021, 2022, and 2023 Tahoe don’t offer the Z71 because the diesel doesn’t fit the Z71’s “high-cut” front fascia.
- A dual-mode exhaust system (active exhaust/valve) was added to the 6.2L V8 L87 engine model.

Platforms
We expect the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe to continue using the same GM T1 platform as the current generation GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade.
The Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade ESV all use additional variants of the same platform. In addition, the 2019 and later Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra both use the same platform variant.

Report
Right now, General Motors fans who love crossover SUVs are debating whether to leave the ship or not, given the recent announcements of the Equinox EV and Blazer SS EV 2024. Don’t worry, the upgraded Tahoe remains ICE’s business. At least virtually.
After unveiling the Chevrolet Silverado EV 2024 and showcasing the Equinox EV 2024 crossover SUV, the GM subsidiary got into action.
They also say that the 2024 Blazer EV is coming, but without actually presenting a photo or even a small hint in the form of a teaser. That issue was addressed recently with the Blazer SS 2024 in EV form which was mocked on social media.
Unfortunately, people aren’t too happy to see a battery-powered Super Sport hit the market about two years from now. And that’s not necessarily because of the EV switch, but rather the unimpressive treatment it’s given the current Blazer.
Thankfully, SUV fans still have the mighty Tahoe and Suburban if the larger Traverse doesn’t tick the right full-size boxes either.

And, of course, this model will be updated quickly – sometime in the 2024 model year, according to rumors. But MY has become a bit of an EV punching bag lately, so one might start to worry about Tahoe’s fate as well.
Regarding the virtual artist who is better known as c_zr1 on social media, we don’t need to bother. And the pixel master quickly gave us some CGI thought in the form of the facelifted Tahoe 2024 full-size SUV.
Seen in the RST trim and from the rear, just to be sure we see the left and right dual exhaust pipes and breathe a sigh of relief.
Even better, CGI experts promise more POVs are coming soon, logically from the front end and interior variations.
Chevy Tahoe Refresh 2024
Earlier this week, GM Authority brought you spy photo coverage previewing the two-tier headlight configuration set to debut with the updated Chevy Tahoe 2024 and Chevy Suburban 2024. Now, we’re taking another look at the updated SUV, this time with a revised interior design review.
This particular model is the Chevy Suburban High Country 2024 that tops the range, which looks as though it will receive a unique interior colorway similar to that of the GMC Yukon Denali.
Either way, this 2024 Chevy Suburban prototype model also gives us an early look at the revised SUV interior design and layout, which may be covered in heavy camouflage in these photos, but still shows some interesting details.
The first part shown is the center stack infotainment screen, which, as we can see from the side view, looks different from the current model lineup of its larger overall dimensions. Critically, the larger screen still has the same overall placement in the cabin, and once again shows us a floating-type layout.
The instrument cluster is also noticed, with what appear to be influences drawn from the sizeable instrument screens outfitted by the fifth-generation Cadillac Escalade.
Although the current Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban use a hooded instrument panel, this prototype model shows that the hood has been replaced with a slim screen tucked behind the wheel.

The top of the screen is a low-profile design, while the top of the dashboard is also leveled, giving the whole a new, more modern look.
Indeed, if the Chevy Tahoe 2024 and Chevy Suburban 2024 made dramatic changes to the instrument panel, the infotainment screen and the center stack would likely be changed significantly as well.
As a reminder, the Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban are currently available with three different engine options, including the 5.3L V8 L84 petrol engine, the 6.2L V8 L87 petrol engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax.
Looking under the body panels, both SUVs use the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at GM’s Arlington plant in Texas.

Chevy Tahoe Prototype
The 2024 Tahoe Facelift for the Chevy Tahoe 2024 has already begun testing, and we first saw the prototype during testing.
This prototype appears to be a Tahoe test in the LT trim, fitted with 20″ Painted Aluminum Machine Face Wheels with Argent Metal Pockets (quoted straight from Chevy’s current Tahoe configurator).
The LED headlights and signature are visible through the front camouflage, revealing that—unlike the refreshed Silverado 1500—the main lighting revamp is not available for the large SUV. The grille camouflage is oppressive and hides other details of the Tahoe’s front fascia.
Taking a closer look at the lower front air intake, it appears a sensor is visible, likely for adaptive cruise control, but perhaps working for some other driving aids.
The availability of the Super Cruise is a big part of the updated Silverado technology upgrade, and the changes are expected to migrate to the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon SUV line as well.
The GMC Sierra test fleet has been spotted with a plethora of LIDAR sensors and cameras, suggesting that more advanced autonomous technology is in the works, using a large body-on-frame SUV as its testing platform.
The progress learned in these AV testbeds can transfer to the updated SUVs, when they hit the market next year, for the 2024 model year.
Now that the covert prototype for the updated Chevrolet Tahoe is up and running, we’ll be looking for more trim levels and new details in the works for the full SUV lineup from Chevrolet and GMC.
2024 Chevy Tahoe Facelift
In the 2024 Chevy Tahoe Facelift, it seems that Chevrolet will continue to rely on six-cylinder diesel and eight-cylinder gasoline engines in the future. One design expert described the style of the new Chevy Tahoe Facelift 2024 as inspired by the Silverado EV as informed by auto evolution.
The Silverado EV-style bumper grille and hood and the alloy wheels and taillights are also inspired by the Silverado EV in RST flavor. The power generated by the Silverado EV RST First Edition produces 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet (1,064 Nm) in Wide Open Watts mode.
While not as powerful in terms of torque as the Hummer EV, this vehicle is certainly a bit more powerful than the Tahoe and Suburban fuel-engine pickup trucks.

On the other hand, General Motors’ Cadillac Escalade-V is the only Detroit-based truck-based SUV to feature a supercharged V8. This is a great opportunity for General Motors in trucks and SUVs to continue to optimize performance electric vehicles such as the dual-motor Silverado EV RST First Edition and tri-motor Hummer EV First Edition.
Cadillac’s debut has confirmed the Escalade EV in 2024 powered by the BT1 body-on-frame platform. Closely related to the BEV3 for unibodies, the BT1 is currently used in the Hummer EV and the Hummer EV, Silverado EV, and Sierra EV SUVs.
Of course, this is not just wishful thinking, General Motors has pledged to only sell electric vehicles by 2035 as long as market conditions allow for mass adoption of electric vehicles. Given that, it is certain that the Tahoe EV and Suburban EV will become a reality in the near future.
