2025 Chevy Traverse: Introducing New Z71 Model SUV Review

Posted on

2025 Chevy Traverse vehicle has to exceed expectations to be considered a success. Just ticking a box no longer passes the test, no matter how capable a car is. When the current-generation Chevrolet Traverse debuted in 2018, we used words like “very average” and “awkward” to describe it. It was at a disadvantage from the start, and the big refresh it received last year did little to improve its position significantly. Our expectations for the next-generation 2025 Chevy Traverse will debut in 2025 with minor changes, updates, and improvements. The 2025 Chevy Traverse is a new full-size crossover representing the Traverse nameplate’s third generation.

The 2025 Chevy Traverse launch schedule is expected in the calendar year 2024 as a 2025 model year vehicle. Of course, this is good news because the all-new 2025 Chevy Traverse will continue strengthening Chevy’s position in the full-size crossover segment. Sales will be targeted for 2025 Chevy Traverse units in all current markets where Chevrolet sells Traverse, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, select South American markets, and the Middle East.

We also expect a very Exclusive expectation with the GM VSS-F platform/vehicle, Chevrolet’s evolved design style, including headlights and taillights. A better interior with increased levels of refinement, luxury, and comfort. Technological upgrades to the 2025 Chevy Traverse unit with GM Super Cruise autonomous driving assistance, the presence of plug-in hybrid/PHEV variants or pure battery-electric models, and the presence of more “premium” features to differentiate it from Chevy’s new midsize crossover (expected to be the future Chevy Blazer).

The upcoming 2025 Chevy Traverse is expected to come with body styling available as a full-size luxury crossover with four doors and three rows of seating. The platform presented on the 2025 Chevy Traverse is the GM VSS-F vehicle set which is shared with other GM front-drive vehicles and crossovers.

2025 Chevy Traverse Review

Chevrolet expects this segment to become more popular in the next five years, as three-row SUVs have become the vehicle of choice for suburban American families. To capitalize on these developments, Chevrolet is expected to launch its new 2025 Traverse with a more aggressive look, a more powerful powertrain, and an expanded lineup that now includes the off-road-oriented Z71 model.

New Look and Expanded View

We expect the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse to retain the boxy profile, high-mounted LED streetlights (with the main headlights below), and square grille on the outgoing crossover. This model will have a more athletic build and a larger grille, as well as LED taillights that resemble the L-shaped unit on the Trax. Chevy didn’t provide specific dimensions, but according to Car and Driver, the wheelbase remains at 120.9 inches.

The previous Traverse’s 7.0 and 8.0-inch displays have been replaced with the standard 17.7-inch touchscreen, a significant improvement over the Traverse’s previous 7.0 and 8.0-inch displays. Thankfully, Traverse retains real control over the volume and climate systems. In addition to the standard 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster and six USB connections, a WiFi hotspot, and wireless phone charger are also available. A pass-through under the center console provides access to additional storage space.

Standard on the LS is seating for eight passengers, which is also available on the LT. Due to the second row of captain seats, the Z71 and RS exclusively seat seven. Heated front seats, the second row of outboard seats, a steering wheel, and mirrors are all available, while the RS is the only trim with a second row that folds down for easy access to the third row. The LT and Z71 are available with Evotex faux leather seats from General Motors, while the RS has leather seats for the first two rows.

For a more striking look, the RS model features black 22-inch alloy wheels, blackened exterior trim, a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, and red accents on the black interior. The RS suspension gets a sportier sound and a lighting animation plays when the key is engaged. The LT and Z71 offer a panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade, while the RS comes standard with this feature.

Greater Power and Ability

Underneath the 2025 Traverse’s chassis, it’s been equipped with a new turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine replacing the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V-6. The inline-four engine produces 315 horsepower, five more than the V-6, and 317 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 51 pound-feet. The new eight-speed automatic transmission replaces the previous nine-speed transmission, and the Traverse is available with front- or all-wheel drive. The outgoing V-6 with front-wheel drive is rated at a combined 21 mpg, while the new engine is said to have superior fuel economy. Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds, depending on the configuration.

Chevy is offering the Traverse in the bolder Z71 model for the first time. Chevy claims that the Z71’s one-inch higher ride height and slightly wider track improve stability and handling. Chevy claims that the Z71 has a better approach angle than the other Traverse due to its larger bumper, aluminum skid plates, and red tow hooks.

The Z71 is also equipped with a unique twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system specially designed for off-road use, as well as special dampers with hydraulic rebound control that will help smooth driving on rough terrain. The Z71 rides on 18-inch rims with Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires and comes standard with a special Terrain mode, hill descent control, and a trailering package.

2025 Chevy Traverse Redesign

It’s not so strange that we’re talking about the next 2025 Chevy Traverse, which suggests the new version should be at least a few years away since a facelift is already coming for the COVID-delayed 2022 model.

Recently we quoted from the information presented by Christopher Smith on Motor1 Online Media reporting a prototype has been spotted on the streets of southeast Michigan. We speculate this is our first sighting of the next-generation Traverse with a tougher-looking design than before.

The overall profile is still recognizable as a Traverse with its high beltline and distinctive C-pillar connecting side windows. The front clip design looks bigger with sharper lines and a wide face featuring a split grille.

The 2025 Chevrolet Traverse is equipped with placeholder lights sitting above the mid-mounted lights that will become the headlights. The outer roof profile appears flatter.

The wheelbase could also be slightly shorter, which may be an attempt to differentiate it further from the similarly sized Chevrolet Tahoe. In the third row of the SUV, there is still plenty of space at the back for loading luggage by mounting it in front of the rear of the box with a flatter lift gate.

A placeholder taillight design was used on this test vehicle a smaller and narrower lens will likely come in the production version.

2025 Traverse Exterior

The 2025 Chevy Traverse is spacious inside – big outside – at more than 17 feet long, about the same size as most minivans. So it would be nice to get a version with rear parking sensors.

The lower trim has 18-inch alloy wheels, replaced by the 20-inch version from the RS and up, although buyers of the new Traverse can opt for the larger rims. Roof rails are optional on the base LS and standard elsewhere.

The LS and LT versions offer a Midnight and Sport cosmetic package with many black exterior elements. The Premier trim qualifies for the Redline Edition package with similar black detailing, plus red accents on the wheels.

2025 Chevrolet Traverse Interior

Seating for eight is standard on the LS. The other range has accommodations for seven, though eight seats are optional on the LT. The difference is, a pair of captain seats in the second row replace the 3-position bench seats.

This is one of the few mid-sized 3-row SUVs that has enough room for adults to sit in the back row without complaining too much. Rear legroom is 33.5 inches, with 38.4 inches in the second row. Very good headroom throughout.

Chevrolet can’t get away from the occasional cheap plastic bits in its interior, but the 2023 Traverse has a pleasant cabin in general. Together with 10 cup holders.

Cargo space is another of the Traverse’s strengths, ranging from 23 cubic feet to 98.2 cubic feet with the double and triple rows folded.

2025 Chevy Traverse Models

2025 Chevy Traverse Models are available in six trim levels: LS, LT Cloth, LT Leather, RS, Premier, and High Country.

All Traverse models use the 3.6-liter V6 engine (310 horsepower, 266 lb-ft of torque) and a nine-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is optional.

2025 Chevy Traverse Color

This year’s new paint choices are Radiant Red Tintcoat and Sterling Gray Metallic.

Traverse 2025: WIRELESS APPLE CARPLAY/ANDROID AUTO

While smartphone integration is standard in most new vehicles, a more convenient and wireless version of this standard means you can leave your phone in your bag or jacket pocket.

2025 Chevy Traverse: DUAL SKYSCAPE SUNROOF

Standard in the High Country, optional on LT, RS, and Premier trims, this two-panel sunroof accentuates the general openness of the 2023 Traverse SUV’s cabin. The rearmost panel has a power shade.

2025 Traverse Standard Features

The most affordable of the new Traverse SUV is the LS trim, featuring 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps/daylight/rear light, keyless entry/ignition, 3-zone automatic climate control, cloth upholstery, and rear seat reminder.

Safety systems include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane keeping assistance, following distance indicator, automatic high beam, and Teen Driver feature.

The infotainment setup has a 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, satellite radio, Wi-Fi, six USB ports (two per row), Bluetooth for two devices, and six speakers.

Powertrain: Chevrolet Traverse 2025

We expect the next Chevrolet Traverse to feature the following engine options:

  • New 2.0L I-4 turbo engine with automatic engine stop/start function to replace the GM 2.0L Turbo LTG (gasoline)
  • 3.6L V-6 LGX with automatic engine stop/start function as an upgrade from the new 2.0L Turbo (gasoline)
  • Possible twin-Turbo 3.0L V-6 LGW (gasoline) engine in performance variant
  • New turbo-diesel engine for selected markets (diesel)
  • Possible electric plug-in hybrid/PHEV (gasoline/electric)
  • Perhaps a pure battery-electric variant

We also expect the 2025 Chevy Traverse to be offered with GM’s new 9-speed automatic transmission. Potential plug-in hybrid and electric models will have their powertrains.

Security First

The Traverse is naturally equipped with a range of driver-assist technologies to ensure the safety of the whole family, including standard lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning. The Traverse is also available with adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, automatic reverse braking, and a suite of cameras and parking sensors. Every Traverse is equipped with a new “Buckle to Drive” system that requires front passengers to fasten their seat belts before driving, while rear seat belt reminders prompt rear passengers to do the same.

The latest iteration of Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driver assistance system that handles steering, acceleration, and braking on divided highways, will also be available on the Traverse. The plan now performs lane changes automatically and continues to function while towing the trailer.

2025 Chevy Traverse Engine & Transmission

It looks a bit dated in the engine bay of the 2025 Chevy Traverse, but there’s a solid 3.6-liter V6 that produces 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque without the aid of a turbocharger or supercharger. This makes the Traverse one of the more muscular midsize SUVs.

Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, with all-wheel drive (AWD) offered as an option in every trim level. Transmission duties are handled by a 9-speed automatic. And the maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds.

Ordinary petrol is fine. These fuel economy estimates from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are linked to 2022, but we do not anticipate any changes for 2025.

  • 3.6-liter V6
  • 310 horsepower @ 6,800 rpm
  • 266 lb-ft of torque @ 2,800 rpm
  • EPA city/highway fuel economy: 18/27 mpg (FWD), 17/25 mpg (AWD)

2025 Chevy Traverse Price

We anticipate a modest price increase from the outgoing model, with a starting price of around $40,000. While the RS is currently the top-of-the-range model, a luxurious High Country trim could be added to the lineup shortly.

2025 Chevy Traverse Release Date

So far there is no definite and concrete information on where GM will produce the next-generation Chevy Traverse. But based on previous experience the first and second generations are assembled by GM USA at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan and we predict the 2025 Chevy Traverse will hit the market next fall.

Verdict

the 2025 Chevy Traverse is a top contender in the SUV market, offering a perfect blend of style, performance, and versatility. Its sleek design, spacious interior, powerful engine options, and competitive pricing make it a compelling choice for anyone in search of a high-quality SUV.
