In a Motor biscuit post by Thom Taylor, GM revealed the term “mean and green fresh take” on the Chevrolet 1500 pickup written by GM designer Ben Wilkins. However, this design has not revealed the specifics of what the next Silverado will look like. During a recent GM Investor Event, General Motors President Mark Reuss discussed the company’s efforts to improve fuel economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the forthcoming next-generation pickups.
“It will include new powertrains with significant efficiency and performance enhancements,” Reuss said. The next engine portfolio update for our next-generation full-size vehicles will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10 percent compared to current offerings.
In addition to updated powertrain options, the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado will feature altogether new exterior and interior designs and a brand-new platform. To clarify, it will not utilize the same platform as the Chevy Silverado Electric, which travels on the same Ultium Platform as the Hummer EV SUV and Hummer EV Pickup.
2025 Silverado Review
The current Silverado 1500 is a facelift of the design that first arrived in showrooms in 2018 as the 2019 entry. The 2023 model has featured a mild facelift. Of course, we sincerely hope that the next version will continue to maintain the 2019 basics with some fresh sheet metal fender upgrades and new front and rear fascias.
It’s not too far from the front end of the new 2023 Silverado HD that the “horse blinder” front fender extension has been eliminated. The side body design makes the wheel openings more prominent with a more square design feature that many Chevy truck fans missed from the previous generation.
Versions of the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV with a gas-powered ICE will continue to advance for some time to come. The 2025 Chevy Silverado will utilize the GMT1000 for some time to come with some updates with new sheet metal, engines, and more towing and driver aids.

The mid-cycle upgrades (Silverado and Sierra 1500) that we are rolling out for 2022 have a 5.8 percent reduction in greenhouse gases, and the next-generation model in ’25 is expected to have a further 4.7 percent reduction,” said Reuss.
What could this “engine portfolio update” avoid? Across the industry, everyone seems to have a different technique for reducing exhaust emissions.
GM’s chief truck rival, the Ford Motor Company, began making the F-150 hybrid, otherwise known as the PowerBoost. Over at Stellantis, the Ram 1500 offers a 48V mild hybrid setup branded the eTorque.

2025 Chevy Silverado Report
According to a report by GM Authority, GM President Mark Reuss confirmed the 2025 debuts for both full-size truck models in a recent meeting with investors. The next-generation Silverado and Sierra will be equipped with a new powertrain. They are also expected to reduce emissions by 10 percent in keeping with the automaker’s push to achieve full carbon neutrality by 2040.
Beyond this, not much is known about what GM has planned for its next-generation full-size pickup. It’s also unclear how the upcoming Silverado EV will fit into the next-generation Silverado lineup.
Details about the new Silverado and Sierra will likely not be available for a while, but in the meantime, there’s a lot to know about the updated versions that will arrive later in the 2022 model year. The 2022 Silverado 1500 was unveiled last month, and the 2022 Sierra 1500 will debut. later in October.
The Silverado 1500 2022 features a new grille, new front fascia, and additional exterior paint options. Inside, the higher trim receives a completely redesigned cabin with new seats, a reshaped dashboard, and a center console with a 13.4-inch touchscreen, and more color schemes are available.

In addition to the updated powertrain offerings, the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado will also showcase an entirely new exterior and interior design and ride on an all-new platform.
To clarify, it won’t be the same platform the Chevy Silverado Electric model uses, which rides the same Ultium Platform, meaning it uses GM’s Ultium battery technology and Ultium drive technology in a similar way to the Hummer EV SUV and Hummer EV Pickup.

Production of the Silverado 1500 2025 is expected to start at the end of the third quarter or possibly the fourth quarter of 2024.
As of 2019, the Silverado 1500 model has been assembled at the Silao plant in Mexico and the Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, USA.
In addition, the Oshawa plant in Canada currently only builds Chevrolet Silverados. Production began with the Silverado HD in November. In the spring of 2022, Oshawa will begin production of the Silverado 1500s, along with the launch of the new model announced earlier this year.
This will make Oshawa the only GM plant to exclusively manufacture Silverado models, and the only factory to make light and heavy trucks.
The next-generation Chevy Silverado will most likely launch after the 2025 model year.
2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV
According to a story on Reuters, Barra spoke to investors recently and promised a big increase in the company’s EV production. Barra says GM plans to produce 400,000 EVs in North America during 2022 and 2023. That sounds like a huge number, and it is, but it may not help the Silverado EV’s turnaround time.
If in fact, there were 100,000+ reservations, that would mean 25% of all EV output would have to be dedicated to Silverados, and that doesn’t seem feasible. Assuming that GM can produce 50,000 Silverado EVs by 2023, that would leave half of the orders unfulfilled by the end of next year.
If they can double that output to 150,000 units by 2024, that would mean that most, if not all of the pre-orders for the Silverado won’t arrive until late 2024 or early 2025. And that doesn’t take into account additional orders, dealer deliveries, etc.
Ford ran into the same problem with the launch of the Ford Bronco – and it wasn’t even electric.
GM has many EV products including the GMC Hummer, Cadillac Lyric, and Chevy Bolt. And there’s also the upcoming GMC Sierra EV.
Increasing production is fine and needed, but spread across multiple vehicle production lines, won’t speed up the Silverado EV in time to meet demand.
We agree the Silverado EV is pretty cool. But is it cool enough to wait 3 more years? Meanwhile, Rivian makes electric trucks and SUVs from two different factories, and Ford has started pre-production on the F-150 Lightning.
Then there’s Tesla looming over the Cybertruck, though they’re bound to suffer a lot of setbacks along the way. GM seems to be catching up with these other EV options.
The real question is: How patient are people with the Silverado EV? Is it so good that they’re willing to wait years to get one, or will they choose another EV?
2025 Chevy Silverado Release Date
A statement from General Motors said: “As we have said, we have announced a battery cell and assembly capacity investment that will give us more than 1 million units of EV capacity in North America by the end of 2025.”
According to information from Reuters, production of the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq is expected to increase to 25,000 units this year (up from 3,200). Production of the GMC Hummer EV is expected to increase to 21,000 units (from 3,800), and after a short delay due to battery recall issues, the Chevy Bolt is back in production as another EV.
Then there’s the shocking news that GM will be releasing EV versions of the Equinox and Blazer before the Silverado EV.

There are already around 50,000 bookings for the Hummer EV and the aforementioned 110,000 bookings for the Silverado EV. Even with the mentioned increase, it still puts GM behind the demand versus output curve.
We expect the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado to hit the US market in the fall of the calendar year 2024.
Production
Silverado 1500 models are currently assembled at the Silao factory in Mexico and the Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, as of 2019.
Moreover, the Oshawa facility in Canada currently produces only Chevrolet Silverados. In November, production of the Silverado HD commenced. Oshawa will commence manufacturing Silverado 1500s in the spring of 2022, coinciding with the launch of the refreshed model announced this year. This will make Oshawa the only GM plant producing only Silverado models, as well as the only GM factory producing both light- and heavy-duty trucks.
In addition to heavy-duty trucks, the GM Flint facility in Michigan also produces medium-duty trucks.
At the Navistar Springfield facility in Springfield, Ohio, United States, the Silverado Medium Duty 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD are manufactured.
