2024 Chevy Blazer: New Chevy Blazer Mid-Size Sporty SUV Review

Posted on

2024 Chevy Blazer is a two-row midsize SUV that will satisfy anyone who loves to drive and wants to drive something that stands out.

Despite having plenty of cargo and passenger space, the quality of the cabin materials can’t match that of similarly priced rivals like Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.

Some of the Blazer’s top options are also reserved for the most expensive models, impacting its value proposition compared to its more expensive classmates. desired.

The Chevy does shine on the open road, where it turns, brakes, and goes well. It comes standard with front-wheel drive and a 228-hp turbo-four or a 308-hp V-6.

Both engines are available with all-wheel drive, but we prefer six-speed acceleration and the ability to tow up to 4,500 pounds.

While the Blazer is fun to drive, it can’t match the overall craftsmanship of competitors like the Honda Passport and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Chevy gives the Blazer a facelift that makes the mid-size SUV look more distinctive. The update mostly applies to the front end, with a new grille design and fresh lighting elements.

At the rear, the 2024 Chevy Blazer taillights also have a new look and there is a set of newly designed alloy wheels, in sizes from 18 to 21 inches.

The Blazer exterior also benefits from more paint colors with the addition of Fountain Blue, Sterling Grey, Copper Bronze, and Radiant Red; The Nightshift Blue is now also available in the RS trim level.

The interior is upgraded with new standard technology features such as a new 10-inch touchscreen and wireless charging pad.

2024 Chevy Blazer Review

We expect the midsize 2024 Chevrolet Blazer SUV to see a mid-cycle refresh for this model year. However, behind its sharp look, remains an attractive drive — which is a rare attribute for this class.

2024 Chevy Blazer

Refreshed for 2023, the Blazer’s styling has been inspired, it is said, by the Chevrolet Camaro. Ironically, the legendary sports car Chevrolet may be nearing the end of its life as we know it, in part because almost everyone is buying an SUV.

Once we’re in this mid-range category, many SUVs have three rows of seating, but the Blazer has two. Just like the Honda Passport, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

A family with several teenagers should find all of these competitors fairly broad. Shoppers who truly derive pleasure from driving should consider the new Blazer.

2024 Chevy Blazer Refresh

It’s hard to believe that we’re already in the middle of 2022, which means it’s about time the changes to the 2023 model year started showing. Take, for example, the Chevy Blazer 2023.

The midsize SUV dubbed the “Camaro SUV,” at least in general terms, was reintroduced for the 2019 model year as a unibody crossover.

Depending on your attachment to classic Blazer models, the tougher 4x4s, the sting of off-road roots covered for this car-based crossover may not go away in the next three years.

Either way, we also highly expect the Blazer to undergo some changes for 2024, though none involving a return to the time of the K5 Blazer.

The change also doesn’t involve electrification—yet. Don’t be confused by the biggest news about the Blazer nameplate, the appearance of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer SS EV,

Which will be revealed on July 18 before going on sale in the spring of 2023. Likely, all the conventional Blazers and the all-electric Blazer SS that will be shared are a name.

As for the Blazer’s powertrain, there are no changes this year; the base, the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter I-4 was dropped for the 2022 model year. The rest is the turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 that makes 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque (standard on the 2LT, 3LT, and Premier) and 3.6-liter

The naturally aspirated V-6 pushes out 308 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque (standard on the RS, available on the 3LT and Premier). Both engines are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Chevy reimagined the Chevy Blazer’s front-end styling to highlight its bold, muscular, and modern outfit, refreshing the front fascia, grille design, LED headlights, and LED daytime running lights.

You’ll know something is different, in a good way, but you can’t tell because the changes are so fitting, so natural, and relatively subtle.

Many of the corners of the New Blazer’s snoot have been changed so that it visually aligns with a cleaner and neater look.

For example, when the new, longer headlights meet the grille, the bottom corners of the headlights tilt outward toward the grille rather than inward.

The new angle makes the edges of the headlights more even. The daytime running lights are slightly elongated and reshaped to be less triangular, with the inside being shaped parallel to the sides of the grille.

The grille design looks more stretchy.

The new LED tail lights look sharp and almost resemble an infinity sign when lit in contrast to the arrow or wing displays of the previous aircraft.

Here’s a welcome change: The new 10.0-inch color touchscreen on all models replaces the tiny 8.0-inch display. Wireless charging is now available on all models (standard on RS and Premier, available on 2LT and 3LT).

Adaptive Cruise Control is available in all trims. Lastly, the Nightshift Blue interior color is available for the RS.

For some extra style, new 18-, 20- and 21-inch alloy wheels join the line. Sterling Gray Metallic, Copper Bronze Metallic, and Radiant Red Tintcoat join the exterior color palette at an additional cost.

2024 Chevy Blazer Driving

The Chevy Blazer takes on a different character according to what’s under the hood.

In some cases, it may be better to use a less powerful engine. It may seem counter-intuitive, but it develops a maximum torque of 258 lb-ft at just 1,500 rpm. That’s a nice amount of accessible low-end boost.

Although the V6 eventually developed 270 lb-ft, it did so at a relatively high 5,000 rpm. So the driver will pound the throttle to get the most out of this engine.

As it turns out, the 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine is perfectly adequate for most tasks.

And of course, it’s slightly better on gas than the V6. But it’s nice for buyers to have a choice, and the RS does have a slightly sportier suspension setup than the rest of the Blazer 2023 lineup.

The ride quality in each model is well calibrated but can provide comfort while remaining calm during faster corners.

2024 Chevy Blazer Interior

If the Camaro-inspired cabin style suggests anything, it’s some cheaper-looking plastic and an environmentally unfriendly rear passenger. That would only be half true in the Blazer. SUV

The rear legroom is a decent 39.6 inches. Cargo space increases from 30.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats to 64.2 when folded.

The main caveat here is that the rear headroom suffers when the optional sunroof is installed. And the Honda Passport has a larger cargo capacity.

On the front, there’s a new 10-inch infotainment touchscreen that replaces last year’s 8-inch display.

This stands apart from the arguably pleasing dashboard design and the infotainment system itself is easy to navigate. This year, even the 2LT offers wireless charging.

The sporty RS comes with an 8-inch digital driver instrument cluster, which is also present in the Premier model. But yes, there is some plastic in the cabin which is not of the same quality as the Honda or Hyundai Santa Fe.

2024 Chevy Blazer Exterior

This year’s changes are mostly focused on the front, with a revised —bigger — grille, new LED headlights, and new LED daytime running lights. Chevrolet has also installed new LED taillights on the Blazer.

Color options now include Fountain Blue, Sterling Gray Metallic, Cooper Bronze Metallic, and Radiant Red Tintcoat.

The RS model also offers the exclusive Nightshift Blue. A two-tone color scheme with a black roof remains available. And there is a new design for the wheels.

2024 Chevy Blazer Favorite Features

  • INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM
Along with getting a larger standard touchscreen this year, this setup is easy and logical to use, with almost no type of learning curve.
  • 3LT MODEL
This version is still relatively affordable while adding more standard equipment than the 2LT, as well as qualifying for more options.

Standard Features

The first of the Blazer SUV’s four trim levels, the 2LT only comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine.

Plus 18-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, keyless entry/ignition, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, upholstery, rear seat reminder, and active noise cancellation.

Safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, distance following indicator, lane guard assistance/lane departure warning, and automatic high beam.

A new 10-inch infotainment touchscreen to come to the system that also includes Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, Amazon Alexa compatibility, satellite radio, one USB-A port, one USB-C port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and six speakers.

Factory Option

The V6 engine is available in subsequent 3LT models. It is also equipped with a remote start function, side mirrors/self-dimming mirrors, roof rails, leather-covered steering wheel, 6-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, perforated leather seating surface, powered tailgate, change alert lane with Side Blind Zone Alert, and rear traffic warning, plus rear parking sensors.

The RS trim is the sportiest Blazer SUV, using V6 wheels and 20-inch alloy wheels as standard. Other equipment includes hands-free tailgate operation, a 120-volt outlet, ambient cab lighting, and navigation.

The Premier trim has all the comfort features found in the RS but reverts to a 2.0-liter engine as standard.

Lower trim qualifies for 20-inch alloy wheels; Premier offers 21-inch rims. Other options include a panoramic sunroof, side steps, camera mirrors, power-adjustable steering column, heated/ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera system, wireless charging, Safety Warning Seats, heated rear seats, and adaptive cruise control, and 8-speaker Bose audio system. Some of them are not available in the 2LT version.

2024 Chevy Blazer Engine and Transmission

The base engine in the 2LT, 3LT, and Premier trims is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

An alternative available on the 3LT (but not the 2LT) and Premier, which is also standard on the RS, is a naturally aspirated (no turbo) 3.6-liter V6 developing 308 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines are connected to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is the default setting with either engine, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is offered as an option.

The RS has a model-specific twin-clutch AWD system.

This Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimate of fuel savings relates to 2022, but we do not anticipate any changes for 2023.

  • 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4
  • 228 horsepower @ 5,000 rpm
  • Torque 258 lb-ft @ 1,500-4,000 rpm
  • EPA city/highway Fuel economy: 22/29 mpg (FWD), 22/27 mpg (AWD)
  • 3.6 liter V6
  • 308 horsepower @ 6,700 rpm
  • Torque 270 lb-ft @ 5,000 rpm
  • EPA city/highway Fuel economy: 19/27 mpg (FWD), 19/26 mpg (AWD)

2024 Chevy Blazer MPG

The standard four-turbo Blazer is rated at up to 22 mpg city and 29 highway. The V-6 version is a bit more thirsty, with an estimate of up to 20 mpg city and 27 highway.

2024 Chevy Blazer

We haven’t tested the four-cylinder version on our 75 mph highway fuel-efficient route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, but the all-wheel-drive, V-6 Blazer delivered 24 mpg during our real-world test.

The Honda Passport and Hyundai Santa Fe both delivered 27 mpg in the same test. For more information on the Blazer’s fuel economy, visit the EPA website.

2024 Chevy Blazer Price

We expect the Chevrolet Blazer 2024 SUV to start at around $35,000 and go up to around $45k. In other words, not far from the 2023 price.

With last year’s figures, all-wheel drive is a hefty $2,700.

This price puts the Blazer at a disadvantage over some of the competition. Ford Bronco and Hyundai Santa Fe start at less than $30K.

The Honda Passport and Jeep Grand Cherokee are more in the $38K area.

Before buying, check KBB.com’s Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for their new Blazers.

Usually, for a Honda, the Passport has a strong resale value. But the Blazer’s price is pretty much the same as the Hyundai Santa Fe.

We’re expecting a 2024 Chevy Blazer next summer.
