2023 Chevy Camaro remains at its roots as a traditional muscle car, but is packed with many modern features. Its well-tuned chassis and impressive list of engine options make the Camaro a blast to drive at any speed.
The Camaro competes with the larger Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. The Mustang is a more direct competitor due to its similar size, price and engine offerings. The Challenger is bigger, more spacious, and has no conversion options.
Chevrolet has made no significant changes to the Camaro for the 2023 model year apart from a few new paint and wheel options.
The future of the Camaro nameplate is uncertain, and probably won’t last until 2024. GM is getting serious about electrification, so we could be nearing the end of the petrol-powered Camaro era.

2023 Chevy Camaro Review
The Chevrolet Camaro will reportedly get a power boost for 2023. Motor Trend, citing a source “deep inside GM,” claims the ZLI which is at the top of the range could get an upgrade from the Cadillac Blackwing V8.
The move could result in the Camaro 2023 specs hitting 668 horsepower based on the CT5-V Blackwing, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed by Chevy.
Despite reports that Chevy could discontinue the Camaro, it remains an attractive option for muscle car enthusiasts. Rumors suggest Chevy may be planning to end production of the Camaro sometime in 2023 or 2024, at which point the model could be replaced by an electric performance car.
It’s not clear if this will actually end. Meanwhile, the fleet production bulletin claims that orders for the newest Camaro could be placed from late August, with production starting in early June.
Interestingly, more recent rumors claim that the Camaro 2023 will get a 6.2L LT2 V8 from the Corvette C8. If true, the high-powered engine could replace the LT1 in the Camaro LT1 and SS trims.
Having said that, Chevy hasn’t released any information about any potential changes, although we do know the Corvette will get a new Z06 variant for the 2023 model year.
Earlier this year, we learned that the 2022 Camaro would release a track-oriented 1LE Package on both V6 and turbo models. Strict environmental regulations reportedly resulted in the Camaro SS and ZL1 being banned from sale in California.
That said, the oddity in incentives has made the Camaro V8 surprisingly cheaper to rent than the base model despite the huge gap in MSRP.
In terms of competition, the Ford Mustang remains the only Blue Oval passenger car. However, the Mustang Mach-E has allowed the brand to leverage the iconic nameplate in a new way with a lightning-fast electric crossover. Whether Chevy will be able to adapt to the future of EVs while keeping the Camaro remains an open question at this point.
2023 Chevy Camaro Report
The Camaro 2023 is the eighth model year for the current sixth-generation nameplate, introducing several changes and updates compared to the previous 2022 model year. Now, GM Authorities have learned that the start of regular production for the 2023 Camaro has been pushed back by almost two weeks.
The 2023 Camaro is scheduled to kick off on June 6. Production will continue at GM’s Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan, the same facility that manufactures the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5.
The Camaro 2023 will be the penultimate model year for the sixth-generation nameplate. Among the changes and updates available for the 2023 model year is the removal of the optional 1LE Spec Visible Carbon Fiber Spoiler for the 2023 Camaro ZL1 trim level, as GM Authority previously reported.
The 2023 model year will also remove the optional Sport Pedals Kit, which is offered as an optional addition to all trim levels with the exception of the Camaro ZL1. Further changes include a revised list of exterior paint options with the addition of Radiant Red and Sharkskin Metallic.
Pricing for the 2023 Camaro will start at $27,195 (including DFC) for the base 1LS trim level, up $800 compared to the 2022 model. The 1LT, 2Lt, and 3LT will also cost $800, priced at $27,695, $29,695, and $33,695, respectively.
A more substantial $1,800 price hike will be applied higher in the lineup, with the LT1 trim level starting at $37,196, the 1SS trim level starting at $40,695, and the 2SS trim level starting at $45,695. The top-of-the-line ZL1 will be $3,700 more expensive, now starting at $68,095.
Going forward, the Chevy Camaro 2024, which will be the final model year for the sixth-generation nameplate, will be offered a special edition “farewell” package that will include a number of aesthetic enhancements to the exterior and interior.
As a reminder, the Chevy Camaro engine lineup consists of four powertrain options, including a 2.0L I4 LTG turbocharged petrol engine, a naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX petrol engine, a naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT1 petrol engine, and a 6.2L V8 petrol engine.
The LT4 is naturally aspirated, and the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 petrol engine. Under the skin is the GM Alpha platform.
2023 Chevy Camaro Driving
The driving experience is one of the biggest attractions of the Chevrolet Camaro. The Camaro uses an excellent chassis that’s not too big, not too small, and agile enough to enjoy on tracks or winding canyon roads. Compared to the much heavier Mustang and Challenger, the Camaro is relatively light on the feet.
The way the Camaro drives may change slightly depending on how you configure it. The basic turbocharged inline-4 engine strikes a fine balance of fun and efficiency while keeping curb weight fairly low. The available V6 is a happy medium between the turbo-4 and 8-cylinder options.
If you’re looking for a true muscle car, you’ll want one of the V8 options. The 6.2-liter V8 that comes with the SS and LT1 models makes the Camaro much more powerful, and a more performance-tuned suspension helps keep that power under control. The V8 is an excellent upgrade if your budget allows.
Finally, the ZL1 model benefits from a supercharged V8 producing 650 horsepower. Other standard performance improvements include dual-mode exhaust, launch control and Magnetic Ride Control.
The 1LE package available for the SS models adds all kinds of performance enhancements to make the Camaro more of a race car. Think of it like a non-supercharged ZL1.
The ZL1 has a 1LE package which further adds DSSV dampers, carbon fiber bits, custom tires, and its own set of specific ratios when you order a manual transmission.
The Camaro is basically a performance car, but it’s quite enjoyable as a daily driver. This is not a family car because of the small pair of rear seats and tight luggage space.
However, if you don’t carry a lot of passengers or cargo on a regular basis and don’t live in a snowy climate, a case can easily be made to drive the Camaro every day.
2023 Chevy Camaro Exterior
The recent facelift of the Camaro has been a bit controversial. The front-end is a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it design. However, the body lines create a muscle car that is decidedly modern but takes some retro design cues from classic Camaro models.
There are some nice visual variations in the Camaro model lineup. For example, the SS model has a unique front fascia that’s slightly more aggressive than the lower trim, and the ZL1 has a look of its own that can’t be overlooked.
There are also special appearance packages such as the Black Appearance Package, Shock and Steel Special Edition, and Redline Edition.
The Camaro is available as a coupe or 2023 Camaro SS Convertible, as is its rival Ford Mustang.
2023 Chevy Camaro Interiors
The inside of the Chevy Camaro is really like a modern sports car. It has a stylish contemporary design with a satisfying atmosphere of simplicity. The seats are generously supported, and there are some retro designs to match the exterior.
The front seats are roomy and comfortable, but the rear seats are a different story. The back seat on the Camaro is completely useless.
Even children with short legs can barely fit in there. If you’re looking for an American muscle car with a usable rear seat, check out the Dodge Challenger.
The interior of the Camaro gets even better as you upgrade the model lineup. For example, the 3LT and 2SS models have aluminum interior accents, a heads-up display, illuminated sill plates, wireless charging pads, and more. The lower trim is a bit more modest, but that’s okay for a sports car on the cheap.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t highlight the terrible rear visibility on the Camaro. It’s hard to see that it’s become a joke since the Camaro came back in 2010. We highly recommend blind-spot monitoring if you can afford it.

- MUSCULAR MACHINE
There’s no bad engine under the hood of the Camaro. The base turbo-4 is strong yet efficient, the naturally aspirated V8 gives it the character of a true muscle car, and you can still get a V6 for good measure. For the peak performance of the Camaro, get the supercharged ZL1.
- 1LE PACK
Add the 1LE package to the SS or ZL1 model to turn the Camaro into a V8-powered muscle car that becomes a monster on the track.
Standard equipment on the base 1LS trim is a bit sparse, but it comes with the essentials. Standard features include 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, cloth seats, electric driver’s seat, backup camera, air conditioning, power windows and door locks, mirrors, LED headlights and a Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system with Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple. The standard powertrain is a turbocharged inline-4 engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard on every Camaro.
Upgrading to the 1LT trim doesn’t add many of the additional standard features to the Camaro, but it opens up some desirable options. Most notable is the 3.6-liter V6 engine, which you can’t get in the base 1LS trim.
The 2LT trim adds dual-zone automatic climate control and not much else. The 2023 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 trim is not to be confused with the 1LT trim. The LT1 is where the 6.2-liter V8 engine comes standard. In addition, it is equipped with a 1LT model.
The 1SS retains the same excellent V8 engine as the LT1 trim but adds a sportier look to the package while opening up more options.
