2023 Chevy Silverado Unlike the F-150 Lightning, which shares the platform and most of its body with petrol and diesel-powered versions, the Silverado EV is a different monster to its internal combustion cousin.
Under the skin, the Silverado EV uses the same Ultium EV platform as the GMC Hummer EV pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV. As such, the exterior and interior of the Silverado EV are truly unique, and the electric pickup truck is only available with a crew cab body.
The Silverado EV will initially be available in two trims: WT (or Work Truck), and RST First Edition.
Aimed at fleet customers, the WT starts at US$41,595 ($57,600), and comes with black bumpers and steel wheels.
2023 Chevrolet Silverado EV With Work Truck Review
The WT powertrain is said to produce a total of 380kW of power and 834Nm of torque. In standard guise, it has a payload rating of 544kg (1200 pounds) and can tow up to 3629kg (8000 pounds).
The fleet-only model raises the crane’s rating to 9072kg (20,000 lb).
This is a big step up for the RST First Edition, which starts at US$106,695 ($147,600). Unlike some of its competitors, the Silverado EV is ineligible for the US$7500 ($10,400) federal government tax credit because combined sales of the Bolt and Volt have exceeded the program limit of 200,000 cars per manufacturer.
To justify the price, the RST First Edition comes with an all-wheel drive powertrain capable of 495kW and 1058Nm in Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode — yes, really —.
Foot-to-the-floor, the RST is capable of completing the 0-60mph (0-97km/h) dash in 4.5 seconds.
Other upgrades include 24-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension that can raise or lower the car by up to 50mm, and a SuperCruise hands-free driving mode that works on 320,000 km of approved highways in the US and Canada.
The RST also comes standard with a 17.0-inch infotainment screen, 11.0-inch instrumentation screen, 14.0-inch heads-up display, glass roof and 26.5L console bay.
Optional extras include a Multi-Flex tailgate, and a “middle gate” that expands the cargo tray into the passenger compartment, allowing the truck to carry goods up to 3.3m in length.
GM hasn’t announced details on the rest of the Silverado EV range, but promises the yet-to-be-disclosed mid-range model will fill all available price points between the WT and RST.
Both models are said to have a driving range of 645km (400mi) on a full charge, and will support DC fast chargers of up to 350kW.
All Silverado EVs are also equipped with a waterproof front trunk that can accommodate large suitcases. The 10.2kW PowerBar with up to 10 outlets is available in all variants.
US residents can make reservations for the Silverado EV now, but first deliveries won’t begin until the second quarter of 2023 when WT rolls out of the gate.
The RST First Edition which is the highest variant is scheduled to be available in the third quarter of 2023.
Although it hasn’t released any details, Chevrolet has also released a single teaser image of the Trail Boss variant of the Silverado EV.
This more off-road-oriented variant features a matte black fascia plus a pair of red recovery hooks.
If the regular petrol-powered Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss is anything to go by, expect a few additional changes under the skin to enhance the truck’s off-road capabilities.
Pricing has not yet been announced for the Trail Boss.
At US$41,595 for the WT and US$106,695 for the RST, the Silverado EV is more expensive than the F-150 Lightning, which is currently still eligible for the US Government tax credit.
The fleet-focused Lightning Pro starts at US$39,974 ($55,369) before any tax credits, while the top-spec Platinum is US$90,874 ($125,873).
2023 Chevy Silverado Review
Leaked earlier this month by General Motors dealer ordering system, the Silverado ZR2 Bison will launch in the second half of 2022 for the 2023 model year. The question is, does it really make sense?
Against high-performance rivals that include the Raptor and TRX, certainly not.
The 6.2-liter small-block will carry over from the Silverado ZR2 without the massive supercharger on top, which is a missed opportunity in every way if you remember that the truck-based Escalade-V flaunts a blower.
Speculatively rendered by The Sketch Monkey, aka Marouane Bembli, the off-road pickup won’t be too different from the regular ZR2.
A screenshot from the dealer’s ordering system confirms the Bison’s front and rear bumpers and skid plates for the rear diff, tank, transfer case and front end.
ULV is the production order code for the ZR2 Bison, which competes with half-ton pickups like the F-150 Tremor and 1500 Rebel. The Blue Oval truck features a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 400 horsepower and 500 pound-feet (678 Nm).
The Ram, on the other hand, uses a 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine that produces 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet (556 Nm).
Codenamed L87, the small-block V8 in the ZR2 and ZR2 Bison should be capable of producing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet (624 Nm) to both axles with the aid of a 10-speed automatic transmission developed by the Ford Motor Company.
Similar to the ZR2, the ZR2 Bison will receive front and rear electronic lockers in addition to the Multimatic spool-valve dampers.
First used by General Motors on the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28, the Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve technology proves its worth in the Championship Auto Racing Teams open wheel series with Newman-Hass Racing.
Peers at Red Bull Racing used it to great success in Formula 1, where the DSSV-equipped car won four titles from 2010 to 2013.
Unlike traditional shock absorbers, which use pistons and shims, spool-valve shock absorbers use spool valves.
Thanks to clever engineering, the DSSV is soft and compliant under light stress (think cruising on the road) and sturdy quickly under heavy loads (think bumpy roads).
2023 Silverado Redesign
According to TheSketchMonkey, Chevy’s new pickup truck doesn’t look cool enough and needs more power to keep up with the competition.
We’ve all heard of real estate agents trying to sell buildings for too high a price. Location, location, location seems to be their favorite quote. TheSketchMonkey has the same mindset.
Proportion, proportion, proportion. Being a SketchMonkey YouTube video, we’re obviously going to be talking about proportions, but this isn’t what makes the Chevy Silverado ZR2 a problem for Chevrolet.
SketchMonkey has amassed quite a following of 327,000 customers and is very knowledgeable in the automotive design culture. This makes him quite influential.
Improved pickup truck gameplay nothing less. We have Dodge Ram TRX, and Ford Raptors in 4×4 or 6×6.
Hell, even Mercedes is in the game with their 6×6 G63. Chevrolet already had entries like the Colorado ZR2, but they weren’t very popular with enthusiasts.
For the next experiment, Chevrolet issued a Silverado with the same package name ZR2. However, they have added the name Bison, which is a great name for a pickup. What is more western and stronger than a bison!?
Unfortunately, that’s where the good times end. The standard engine will be a 6.2-liter V8, which makes 420 horsepower and 460 ft-lb of torque. This is very low compared to competitors.
The F-150 Raptor gets 30 horsepower more from the lesser two cylinders, and the Ram TRX completely dispenses with 705 hp.
As with any SketchMonkey video, we get into proportion. Sketch tells us that the Chevy doesn’t look as cool as its competition. The truck used 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires, which weren’t fat enough.
The TRX comes from the factory with 37-inch tires. He tackled this at about 4:38 minutes of the video by adding some much bigger tires with a thicker tread.
He also changed the bumper, height, grille, lights and cladding around the fenders. Furthermore, he’s kept a Chevrolet badge for those wondering, but that’s about it.
What he did, which we find quite interesting and without him mentioning, was he accidentally changed the color of the plastic arch fender guards from plain black plastic to dark brown.
Which worked great with blue paint, (which he later turned blood red) but also with his truck’s name, Bison. The new redesign looks very different from the original photo and in SketchMonkey’s opinion it looks a lot better.
We agree wholeheartedly, but the unnoticed bison brown color in the arch might be something Chevrolet might want to see.
After all, it’s in their history with stingray paint, right? Legend has it that in the 1960s when the paint department couldn’t match the color of a boss stingray, which he insisted on getting as a paint color.

2023 Chevy Silverado Colors
2023 Silverado Colors, the Chevy Silverado 2023 will no longer be offered with the two exterior paint colors offered on pickups for the 2023 model year.
GM authorities have learned that the following two colors will be released after production of the 2022 Chevy Silverado ends (relevant paint codes are listed in parentheses):
- Cherry Red Tintcoat (GSK)
- Metallic Ice Silver (GAN)
The Silver Ice Metallic exterior color is available on all trim levels except High Country, while the Cherry Red exterior color is available on the LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ, and High Country trim levels.
It’s a premium paint option that adds $495 to the pickup truck’s price tag. Both the Silver Ice Metallic and Cherry Red Tintcoat exterior colors will be indirectly replaced by the following three new exterior colors on the 2023 Chevy Silverado:
- Harvest Bronze Metallic (GXN)
- Radiant Red Tintcoat (GNT)
- Sterling Gray Metallic (GXD)
2023 Chevy Truck Colors, GM has a mild revision to the Chevy Silverado 1500 2023. This will include the introduction of the new LZ0 iteration of the Duramax engine, which will carry similar specifications to the current 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine.
It’s unclear at this time exactly what the LZ0 will improve on compared to the current LM2 engine, but improved fuel economy, lower emissions, or increased output and capacity are likely.
In addition to the Duramax LZ0 turbodiesel engine, the updated Chevy Silverado 1500 2023 will also be available with a 2.7L I4 L3B turbocharged petrol engine, a naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 petrol engine, and a naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 petrol engine.
Production takes place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico, the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada. Pricing for the model year 2023 Silverado has yet to be announced.

2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 Release Date
Production of the Silverado 1500 2023 is expected to begin at the end of the third quarter or possibly the fourth quarter of 2022.
As of 2019, the Silverado 1500 model has been assembled at the Silao plant in Mexico and the Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, USA.
In addition, the Oshawa plant in Canada currently only builds Chevrolet Silverados. Production began with the Silverado HD in November.
In the spring of 2022, Oshawa will begin production of the Silverado 1500s, along with the launch of the new model announced earlier this year.
This will make Oshawa the only GM plant to exclusively manufacture Silverado models, and the only factory to make light and heavy trucks.
We expect the fourth-generation Silverado 1500 to remain in production through the 2025 model year.
The next-generation Chevy Silverado will most likely launch after the 2025 model year.
2023 Chevy Silverado The Silverado 2023 is expected to make minor changes to the light-duty Silverado 1500 after a major upgrade to the Chevy Silverado 2023.

2023 Chevy Silverado Spyshot
The 2023 Chevy Silverado from which we got our first shot of the facelifted Chevrolet Silverado HD 2023, tested in the Crew Cab/Long Bed configuration.
Oddly enough, this is our first look at the facelifted Chevy HD, while we’ve seen several prototypes of the ’23 GMC Sierra HD over the past few months.
Whether testing the Chevrolet variant was slower to begin with—or whether it was just a matter of luck and timing keeping it off our cameras—is unknown at this time.
The Silverado HD prototype features the signature LED headlights and signature of the facelifted Sierra HD, along with a unique grille design that is visible through the camouflage mesh.
The Silverado headlights are still an early replacement unit, but the lighting setup suggests a possible design change to reduce the truck’s current polarizing look. The two headlights sit side by side in a horizontal arrangement, with what appears to be a slit in the camouflage to expose the LED strip above the headlights.
The clean horizontal bar of the grille is visible through the front-end camo, and the design looks cleaner than the Silverado HD’s current complex front-end styling. We’ll have to look at more examples to see if Chevrolet has actually blinked a bit at the Silverado HD’s challenging design.
The prototype captured here appears to be a mid-level trim—perhaps an LT trim—without the chrome trim that suggests some of the high-end packages. The heavily camouflaged interior—as on previous GMC Sierra HD prototypes—suggests that many of the interior upgrades expected on the GMC pickup facelift and 2023 Chevy Silverado will also be applied to the heavy-duty offering.
2023 Chevy Silverado EV
Despite sharing an electric powertrain with the GMC Hummer EV, the Chevrolet Silverado EV 2023 looks more like a classic electric pickup truck – the large battery pack is said to provide up to 400 miles of range on each charge.
Like the Hummer, the Silverado EV will be available with three electric motors depending on the model; Four-wheel drive could be standard.
Chevrolet did not release full specifications and details of the truck, but said it would build it in Michigan at the same plant that makes the Hummers.
When it goes on sale, the Silverado EV will face stiff competition from the Ford F150 Electric, as well as new products such as the Rivian R1T and the Tesla Cybertruck.
The Silverado EV will be the new vehicle in the Chevrolet lineup, expected to debut as a 2023 model and go on sale in early 2024.
2023 Chevrolet Silverado Engine
Since the Silverado EV will share the same platform and assembly line as the Hummer EV, they will most likely share the same powertrain. This means one, two or three electric motors, depending on the model, with a total capacity of up to 1000 horsepower.
Allwheel drive system is considered standard, but full Chevrolet specifications have not been released. We know the Silverado EV will be offered with four-wheel steering (shown in the video below) and 24-inch wheels.
2023 Chevy Silverado Platforms
The 2023 Chevy Silverado rides on the GM T1 platform sharing directly with the GMC Sierra 1500. The same basic architecture is also used on the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban 2021 , GMC Yukon and Yukon XL 2021 , as well as the Cadillac Escalade and 2021. Escalade ESV
- 2023 Chevy Silverado rides a more capable version of the same GM T1 platform
- 2023 Chevy Silverado vehicle on a special platform co-developed by GM and Navistar
2023 Chevrolet Silverado Battery
Silverado 2023 Chevy Silverado EV will use General Motors’ new Ultium battery technology, which can be upgraded to create a 200 kWh battery pack. Chevrolet claims this will give the Silverado EV a range of up to 400 miles on a single charge.
Obviously, the actual range will vary, especially when towing, a task many Silverado truck buyers hope to complete with relative ease.
2023 Chevy Silverado Price
Chevrolet has not announced pricing or trim levels for the 2023 Chevy Silverado EV but is said to be offering a discounted version for fleet buyers which will have a low starting price.
The Chevy Silverado 2023 petrol follows the same formula as the low-cost work truck and mid-range LT models.
We also expect more expensive consumer luxury models like the LTZ and High Country to offer more of the convenience and gimmicks that can be borrowed from the Hummer EV, but will obviously demand a higher asking price.
- Work Trucks $51,000 (est)
- LT $56,000 (est)
- LTZ $66,000 (est)
- High Country $71,000 (est)
How Much Is A 2019 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss
The number of ways you can configure Silverado 2019 is mind-blowing. A 4.3-liter V6 also comes standard on the Custom and Custom Trail Boss rims.
- MSRP (Regular Cab) N/A
- MSRP (Double Cab) $40,995
- MSRP (Crew Cab) $43,395
2023 Chevy Silverado Release Date
While the 2023 Chevy Silverado is expected to debut in early September next year, it won’t be here for a while.
As we previously reported, the Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited will be the first truck version of the 2023 Chevy Silverado to arrive, which is a continuation of the Silverado 2023 Chevy Silverado with the same trim levels, options and exterior and interior colors.
